What is a Bridal Session

I
often get asked by potential brides... what a bridal session is... and if it's even necessary to have one......

Well, a bridal session is a session specifically for the bride... It is typically done right after the final fitting and/or no later than one month before the big day!

Most brides select their favorite portraits and create displays at the reception (i.e. canvas/matted print/framed print, etc) for guests to see.

With all of that being said.... is a bridal session 'necessary'?!

In my opinion.... yes.

I say that because a bridal session is the perfect time for a bride to have her hair/makeup trial done, and also the perfect time to see what the selected florist can create for the bouquet.

Beyond the 'logistics' though, this session is an amazing experience a bride can have with her Mom or maid of honor. It's also an amazing experience in general.... Brides in their wedding gown feel gorgeous.... they feel radiant, and who doesn't want to feel that way?!

I wanted to share some of my bridal session tips....

- Bring your Mom, best friend, matron of honor... someone, because you will need help with you dress.
- Have your hair and makeup done the way you intend to do it on your wedding day.
- Be prepared to get a little dirt on the dress. In fact, if you're really nervous - go ahead and schedule it for a cleaning shortly after your session.
- Bring a white sheet or towel for sitting poses.
- Be sure to eat well and drink plenty of water before your session -- you will surprisingly be exhausted after your session... don't be hungry too.
- Bring a bouquet (or any other props that will complement your wedding theme).
- Get a manicure. Most women forget about this - doesn't have to be anything fancy, but a little something so that any closeup shots don't reveal chipped polish or broken nails.
- Enjoy yourself.... Holy moly - you're getting married. Soak it all in!!

On a similar note, if you've followed my work even for a little while, you've probably seen me credit a hair stylist and/or makeup artist...

People often ask me if that is worth it either...

In my opinion.... double yes.

And here's why...

1) You will feel more confident... and confidence shines through in pictures.
2) Professional makeup can help with problem skin.
3) You can't deny that when you've had your hair professionally done, you wished it looked like that everyday.
4) It actually helps speed up the editing process... which in turn allows the photographer to return images sooner.

Brides, don't be afraid to ask your photographer questions... or for hair/makeup recommendations.... Make sure that your special day is just that... special!
